Offered for auction a "RARE VINTAGE STAR SOAP STINCELED WOOD ADVERTISING WAGON / NOT A TOY / MADE IN USA". This wagon showcases "STAR SOAP", one of the premier family soaps of the early 20th century. The stenciled work is exceptional, using red, black and gold colors to market their product. The front panel is decorated with the stenciled soap product and the sides display the name "STAR SOAP", with circled red stars before and after. There is no connected tailgate. The long curved pull handle is quarter-sawn oak. Both larger and smaller wood spoke wheels are metal banded. The bed underside has printed information that reads: WARNING THIS IS NOT A TOY FOR DISPLAY ONLY / PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA . A fellow eBay user messaged me that the manufacturer of this wagon is J. P. Bartholomew Company in Orange, California. I am not certain of the precise age, however, I was advised that it was made in the 1980's. Measurements: Overall Length with handle extended, from back wheel edge to handle grip...46", Height, with handle up...26", Bed length...18", Bed width...9 1/2", Bed height...4 1/2", Length of handle...23 1/2", Height from wheel bottom to bed top...11 1/2", and weighs approx. 6.5 Lbs. The wheels move handily and the bed is sturdy enough for guest (photo #11) Your tabby-cat can even be placed inside to remind her to wash her paws with Star Soap, before she sits at the table and have a meal of fried Cajun Catfish and Goat's milk. LOL. This wagon is in good vintage, preowned condition, with a few paint chips, no cracks or separated edges.
